what does circle with lines on side mean on dash

So I'm off to have my car inspected today, and sure enough I look down at the cluster and see that one of the displays is lighted up. It's the circle with the lines come off it, looks like a sun. I swear I thought it meant that one of my light bulbs was out. But no it can't be, because it only flickers on when I go over a bump and put my foot on the brake pedal. I checked all the lights and they are working fine.

So what is could it be. Drive me crazy.

Front brake pads need replacement, that is the wear sensor indicator lamp.

latitude500, it sounds like the "lamp out" indicator. How did you check the brake lamps without an assistant? Be sure to check the rear shelf brake lamp too. Best to use Osram/Sylvania replacement lamps that match the lamp wattage listed in your Owner's Manual.

the flickering is the clincher that it's the brake pad wear sensor.

My god, thank you all. I truly didn't know that light was for the brakes. I really thought it was a light bulb that was out that I couldn't find. Thank you, I'll take off the wheels and take a look at the pads.
