W124 Acceleraing Sound question
Do any of you hear a high pitched whine when you accelerate or punch the gas pedal on your W124? In my past car life, this would typically be a pulley bearing or something like the alternator going bad. I cannot tell with a stethascope and hear it better from inside the car. Is it the Torque Converter spinning? Were they like this new out of the box? It cruises nice and quiet but when I punch to pass, high pitched whine along with the engine powering up. Can't seem to pinpoint it. Hmmmm...

Mine doesn't whine. Inspect the power steering pump fluid level and belt tension.

Alternator is the most common accessory to make noise like that. See if you can rev the engine manually with the throttle linkage while your head is in the engine bay.

Is it a M103 or M104? My M103 whines a bit, only audible from the inside. It isn't loud though, I haven't been concerned about it. To me it sounded like it was from the transmission (TC maybe?) but it shifts fine.

Can't hear it with my head in the engine and grabbing the accelerator cable. I only hear it inside when stepping on it. It's a 103 engine. It could be the alternator bearing but it sounds like the Torque Converter area and isn't bad. I've had plenty of bad alternator's but it doesn't sound like they did. Belt is new and tight. Maybe power steering pump bearing? Wish I could compare. Almost sounds like air sucking through a small hole...
