Brake Pad Recommendation for 300e
 

Hello,

I have a 1990 300e that will soon need brake pads. I am really tired of brake dust and squeal which is an example of life with stock pads. Can anyone give me a recommendation for a set of front pads which will offer relatively dust free operation along with good stopping power? When I ran BMWs, I always had great results with Repco products. Are there other brands that I should consider?

The OE Benz pad is 000-420-99-20 made by Textar with compound 446 & is a good pad!!

I disagree! I think it's a GREAT pad...

I just put new ATE pads and discs in the fornt of my car. Brakes have never felt better. I contribute this to the new discs and pads.

I used textar in my car before I went to the ATE. Since the discs were worn the textars were gone within 6-8k miles.

Hopefully I'll get more life out of the new discs and pads. brake dust has been fairly small compared to the others. Squeal, non existant.

Go with the best pads you can, and make sure they use stop squeak. also make sure the disc tightening bolts are tightened. if loose they can cause a squeal.

I just put Balo disks and Textar pads on my 300E. Zero squeak and they feel like MBZ brakes should. I love the feel of stock MBZ brakes, I hate squeak, and the dust doesn't bother me.

If you want to reduce the dust, you might find that you trade that for a "grabbier" feel and more potential for squeak.

If you have 15 hole wheels I know why the dust is an issue. I put 8 hole wheels on and it made all the difference in the world.

Dont know if this will help but i did rears on my 93 300e a month ago with a pad i got from my local import parts shop,they were quality pads (the name escapes me) , i didnt cut the rotors cause they loooked in good shape , but the squeal was terrible , got fed up one day went to the local pep boys and got a bendix pad that had a stick on anti squeal shim , been driving for a week with a nice quiet pad with less dust than the noisy pads and these were made by bendix ,pedal seems like it always did , question will be how long they will last

The 1993 300E has different brakes than the 1986 thru 1992, so they have a different brand (JURID) as the OE compound.

There is only one pad that I will ever use again. That is an Okebono Europa pad. Put it on two Benzes with perfect luck. No dust and better stopping distances. There is a long downhill grade between L.A. and the San Joaquin Valley. My '97 Cl600 weighs a lot and really starts a fast downhill run. I'm on the brakes frequently and by the bottom there isn't much brake left. I recently installed Okebono pads and what a difference on the same grade. Made a believer out of me!

PBR (formerly Repco) Deluxe Advanced. Ceramic based, they have very little dust (which is light colored), don't squeal, maintain OE pedal effort, long life, and easy on the rotors.

I've had them on my '88 190E 2.6 since '90. The OE pads worked great, but dusted horribly, squealed, and had short life.

I just resurrected a 4 year-old post about mine -- they are still on the car since 2013 and approx 70K miles.
