190 2.6 5 Speed Transmission Info?

There is a 1989 190E 2.6 with a 5 speed near me...that is going to the crusher. So I might part it out and get a free transmission swap out of it.

Any info on the transmission used in the 190E 2.6? I've never seen a 5 speed 190E. The Evo 2.3-16 being the obvious exception, but that is the Getrag with the dogleg reverse. Is this basically the same 5 speed that was offered for a year or two in the 300E (not dogleg)?

Any specific gearing info? How will it mate with my 2.87 differential? I don't want the car to turn into a complete pig afterwards. I already know how to drive it fast with an automatic.

OK. Found some auto gearing numbers that look to be right for what I know my RPMs to be at 80mph. The manual ratio I am not sure is correct for the 190E transmission. I found the gearing for the 300E 5 Spd, from the "Ritter Bible".

My 300E should have this gearing right now:

1st - 3.87
2nd - 2.24
3rd - 1.44
4th - 1

The 300E 5 Speed from Bible:

1st - 3.856
2nd - 2.183
3rd - 1.376
4th - 1
5th - 0.799

That's pretty damn close to what I have now for 1-3. If the 190E box is the same....my calculator tells me at 80mph in 5th gear, I'd be going 2500rpm. Sign me up now if that's the case.

That should be very close. I remember my 86 300E stick was 2k rpms at 60mph, which would be 2.5k at 75mph, but it's 3.07 rear axle, not 2.87.

I'll try and check mine exactly what the revs are, I think it's a touch higher than what you calculated.

Don't forget the clutch master, and the brake resovour (sp) for the feed.

M103 5 speed is the only way to fly

Don't spend a lot of time swapping the brake reservoir, just snip off the sealed end of the plugged outlet.

190e 2.6 5 speed is lots of fun.
80 in 5th is more like 3k.

What color interior does it have? Mine is mushroom and I need a clip for the passenger visor left side and some other plastic bits and the guts for the passenger side rear window lift...how are the interior door panels?

Be sure to also get the pedal box, front half of drive shaft, flywheel and clutch pipe. The 5 speed has a 1:1 4th gear just like the auto and a 0.8:1 overdrive 5th. The engine will be turning 20% slower on the freeway given that u keep the same diff. The 5 spd is identical betwen W124 and W201. The clutch pedal box will also bolt right in. Not sure about drive shaft length.
Good luck

You will like the car much more with the std trans installed!
You might want to swap differentials as well.
