longevity of trans on 95 e320 wagon
 

how long can i expect with this trans if routinely maintained?car currently has 112k.

all MB trans if took care of,should last the lifetime of the engine.Diesels of course use two transmissions.

Our silver '95 E300 had to have a rebuilt tranny at around 260k miles.

338000 miles on my trans,and still feels strong .Sync.ATF

It varies so much, depending on how it's been driven and cared for. You could be near the end of the road or at the one-third life point. But if it works fine and you take care of it and drive it moderately it should still have lots of life left.

If you plan on keeping it for quite sometime. I would establish a transmission fund for exactly your inquiry. You are at the peak time milage wise for it to start degenning. There was a vast amount of failures.

Shifts well into and out of all gears
Code 26 a common problem on these (upshift delay) which really isn't worth fixing until a service. Actually shifts more smoothly with the Code which I've had for several years. Every couple of years I take the electrician's tape off to see if the CEL is still on. Makes no difference in the way it drives.

If taken proper care of it should be good for at least 150k, but usually much more. Kind of a crapshoot IMO, by the mid-'90s it seems that Mercedes did start to produce some "monday cars".

The bigger problem in most cases is establishing whether the fluid was properly changed with the proper fluid at the proper intervals all of its life (and never "flushed").

I'd agree with babymog, and say it's a complete crapshoot anywhere past 150K. Fluid/filter changes on time are the biggest key to winning the longevity battle. I'd imagine that keeping transmission related vacuum leaks in check also helps. Flaring and harsh shifts can't be good for long term transmission health.

I just did a fluid/filter change last week, it had been a (HARD) 50K so I was a bit overdue. There wasn't even a speck of clutch material to be found. Reverse is still snappy. I don't see any issues for the next 20-30K, at least. :)

My last transmission (an adsit reman) lasted about 350k miles. I just put in another one.

The transmission in my '94 E320 Wagon has had fluid and filter changes every 37 000 miles (60 000 km) since new. The car has now 181500 miles on the clock, and the transmission shifts like new. No delayed shifting, no flares, no delaying when shifting into reverse. I don't think I will have any problems with the transmission in the foreseeable future.
