1996 C280 CEL still on
 

208K and code p0441 read at inspection time. I replaced the purge valve and blew the lines out and reset the CEL. About 20 miles later CEL came back on with same code. Can anyone offer what to check next? Thanks.

Making sure that both black hoses that connect to the purge valve are connected AND not leaking vacuum.

I pulled the washer reservoir and noticed vacuum line that runs from the bottom of that switch to the manifold area was not connected, hooked her up and drove < 2miles, temp went to 115 and many "gurgling" sounds coming from dashboard area. I then unhooked same vacuum line but temp still hovering around 120 and gurgling sound from dash continue. I noticed a third nipple on topside of that switch under the reservoir but no loose lines in the vicinity. What's going on here? Did my thermostat crap out on me incidentally?

I replaced the gas cap, and checked that the 2 black lines that connect to purge valve are indeed connected. The "switch" under the windshield washer reservoir is now connected, one line from the suction side of the purge valve and another going to a connection under the air intake. There is a third nipple that sticks straight up on the suction end of the "switch" that is naked. Is there suppose to be a vac line attached?
The overheating was froma leaky water pump that took 2 days for me to change out. Tip- get a correct pump from your MB shop.

Does the purge valve "pulse" once the engine is warm?

And did you use a new valve?

Purge valve does "pulse" when warm.
It is a new valve.

for any ideas-please. I don't want to "throw" lots of $ at this.

The purge valve pulses when warm and the black lines on either side of the valve are hooked up. My local indie mechanic can't find any vacuum leaks. What could be the problem here?
