IE, they cut the roof off, there was a new vibration, and that lump fixes it. There are probably similar devices throughout the car.

Cabriolet Vibration absorber A 124 320 61 30

The strut mount vibration absorber weighs about 12 kgs. The lead piece is bolted to the center rubber section which is molded around a metal frame. That frame bolts to the strut mount. If the rubber were to dry out/rot (see the cracks in his picture) or the car involved in an accident, that 12 kg. piece of lead would now not be secured, and become a 25 lb. or so projectile.

That "knob" really is an anchor attached to the metal frame. The lead floats to absorb vibration, but if the rubber fails, the "knob" prevents the lead from going anywhere. See pictures below. Clever German engineers

Don, the actual ejector function is non-documented. If the top is down and the vehicle traveling less than 50 kph, depress the accelerator pedal fully to the floor and then pull the red convertible top button rearwards twice. The passenger seat (with Goldfinger's stooge pointing a gun at the driver) is released from the frame, and four dry explosive charges propel the seat upwards. Again, the vehicle must be in motion for the seat to clear the rear deck. Two pulls are required- that's a safety feature so that the seat is not accidentally ejected with just one pull of the switch (which we do to initially lower the top of course).

Edit: I now remember the ejector function was only available on UK delivered autos purchased by someone named "Q".....
