Removing W107 Dipstick Tube
Has anyone successfully (without destroying it) removed the oil dipstick tube from the one-piece pan of the M116/M117 engine on an SL (W107)? The shop manual says "drive it out from the bottom"or words to that effect... this is rather difficult to do on the W107's one-piece oil pan (the engines on W126's have two-piece oil pans, of course).
Has anyone actually INSTALLED one? The reason I ask is that I am disassembling a 380 engine for a rebuild and it would be very helpful if I could remove it.

No way to remove w/o damaging the dipstick tube.
Always got a new one & installing new one is a pain as well.

Thanks, I didn't think of any practical way to do it.
I think it MIGHT be possible to cut it with minimal kerf and install a metal "collar" at the split...it depends on how expensive a replacement is. The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of polishing the oil pan and that's going to be very difficult to do with the tube installed.
