190E rear headrests
 

Anyone ever heard of someone putting rear headrests in the back of a 190E? I remember reading it somewhere, but I can't remember where? I felt the upper part of the back seat where the headrests would be and there does seem to be 2 equal pairs of indentations under the leather where the actual headrests would be. I just bought 2 front headrests that were on an 87 300E that match the black leather in my car. I also have the plastic inserts.

You can still buy the brackets for the rear seat headrests for the W201.

You'll need two sets. Around $20 per set.

Some have used the front seat headrests in the rear. You'll have to cut the "legs" from those, since they are longer than the OEM rear headrests and slightly larger.

Actually, this was an easy project. Already installed. They are manual, but it looks and functions great! I also had the large plastic holders for the base that fits over the hole, but I opted not to use them since it would require me to cut larger holes in my leather :eek:

Now you can add the Evolution II rear window "spoiler" so that your rearward vision is no longer relevant. :D

Or maybe even add a rear curtain like the w240 :). Actually, I'm able to see out the rearwindow just fine. That was of some concern at first, but everything worked out great.

What did you use for post brackets?

No post brackets. Just installed as is as the space was tight, but nonetheless the way the seats and the rear backing was designed, I didn't really need ay brackets as the headrests are pretty stable.

Interesting. Do you think they would hold position with the black oval inserts installed?

Possibly, but if you are planning on doing this mod I would probably opt for the smaller round inserts that the front seats use because the oval inserts are shaped like that because the head rest flip back, not slide up and down.

Thanks for the tip. That's a good idea. I'll try those first and if they don't align, I'll install the ovals.

Your suggestion makes complete sense, but MB supplies the oval eyelets in the bracket kit, and they're also what are used in the W126 rear seat with non-flipping headrests.
