M117 air hose ID help

Hey guys,

Some of you may know that this summer I'm renewing all of the idle and air hoses this summer. I'm half way into the job, but I honestly cannot find one of the hoses anywhere, not even the EPC.

I circled it in [red] this stock image I found online; mine had a huge hole in it, and now that I've replaced it with a piece of straw, idle has smoothed out, but runs high. When I covered the hole in the old tube with my thumb, it was spot on at 700 rpm in Park. Also, I have seen images of this hoses attachment points plugged off. Is that the revised procedure?

EDIT: And by circle it, I mean I circled the assembly its on. its in the right of the circle, connecting the two black elbow hoses that go to the IACV.

Thanks for the help guys,

Carlen

I figure this gets no attention because my groggy self made a pretty crappy diagram with a low res photo with a terrible if not entirely useless description :D

I made a diagram in Paint, as my hose no longer exists, having been replaced with a straw. I may just go to my indy and ask him what the heck it is.

Thanks for any leads guys,

Carlen

leave the straw, it's doing the job. it's an idle bypass that mb retrofitted to cars, to prevent an occassional stalling caused by the idle motor closing too fast. good luck, chuck.

I figure its definitely supposed to be there, but I dont think my straw is allowing the proper flow, as my idle is 750 in park and drive with the straw, and the old hose when sealed with my thumb produced perfect idle speeds... Im just gonna ask the indy for a Part number and call it a night.

I had no idea it served that significant a purpose though, thanks!

The "hose" you are referring to is actually a solid plastic tube part number1169971652---no hole in it. About $5. That's why your idle is too high with a straw in its place. Mark

I saw that thing on a rebuild list, and thought it was the thing I needed, but the part I removed was a tube, not sealed at the end... Mercedes probably redesigned it after the fact; what orientation does it go on? Or does it even matter?

Thanks,

Carlen

if you removed a tube , then you removed the correct part. it's open on both ends, gee, like a straw. your idle issues may be elsewhere, but the tube belongs. good luck, chuck.
