Transmission HELP!!!!!!

I have a automatic 2002 C230 coupe. Today after running errands, I got home and when to put the car in park but I cant shift pass neutral!!!! :( Neutral and drive work perfectly fine, it drives with no issues but I cant actually park my car. Please someone help me.

Sorry if this is discussed somewhere, I couldnt find it.

Sounds like an interlock issue. Faulty speed sensor?

I thought of a speed sensor because i recently had a code P0720 - output shaft speed sensor circuit. I just have no idea how to check if the sensor is faulty. If it is faulty is this an easy DIY and is it expensive to replace?

From what I've read on the W210 boards, it's usually the conductor plate, and replacing it is fairly straightforward.

Is it going to be the same for the W203 as it is for the W210? Did anybody on those boards have a DIY on replacing the conductor plate? Thank you for helping me with this.

If you have the 722.6 electronic transmission, then it should be the same. Here is a DIY:

Problem was the floor shifter, no apparent liquid damage, it just started giving flaky signals to the tranny computer. It happened twice, I'm on the 2nd used shifter. Both times the problem happened after I used neutral coasting down a very long hill 2 or 3 times. Coincidence? Maybe the computer 'learns' something it shouldn't and I don't know how to clearit other than a new shifter???

The CAN BUS constantly checks in with the shifter of how's everything going, if it sees cuckoo signals the system records an error.

that is why it is never recommended to coast in neutral in these cars - this same problem happens with Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep too that use the same transmission.

Reset the adaptations as it may be confused?

It may help, but you are confusing the gearing as the the 722.6 has to go through all the gears to get from a low to high gear, yet it will not go to neutral from 5th gear once you let off the accelerator pedal down hill...

I cant pin point where I read the information, but it was a dodge charger or chrysler 300 - in which the owner shifted to neutral to "hypermile"

The transmission control went into error and locked up in its final gear (5th) - upon restart it had 2nd only. The remedy was to clean out the errors as it was showing a "transmission range error" of some sorts which requires some advanced code reader to read and clean.
