300SEL Trans Issue

I just got back from a long trip and I think my transmission died right when we got home. It was a long 5 hour trip in Texas heat. Everything was perfect until 5 minutes from the house. The trans started slipping and not wanting to stay in gear.

We made it to the house and the next morning checked the trans fluid and it was totally out…or at least not showing up on the dipstick. Put 2 quarts in and it’s now at the proper level but the trans won’t upshift unless I take my foot off the accelerator completely then push down back down. Shifts are smooth but there’s something wrong.

Any suggestions??? Please help, I really don’t want to a rebuild.

Thank you

When you checked the level was the car up to temp, on level ground with the engine running, in park? This is how you want to check it.

You see anything leaking when it is running?

Yes, it was in the garage on a flat level ground and up to temp. I check the ground everyday to see if anything is leaking and there's nothing. I don't understand?? I know engines use oil over time but trans??

if the modulator is shot, the vacuum will pull atf into the engine. every 1 i've seen do that makes smoke like a destroyer in a ww2 navy movie. maybe you have a small vacuum leak? if it's not on the ground, it's out the tailpipe. good luck, chuck.

ditto on what "porkface" suggested.

Check modulator, should hold vacuum.

Also try adjusting control pressure cable or even driving with cable disconnected.
