gasket replacement?

 I need to replace the rubber gasket that fits onto the brakelight fixture on the rear window of my '90 300E.....the gasket between the glass and the fixture itself....how do I remove the fixture to do this??? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

dbgrate, use a small flathead screwdriver on each side of the brake light plastic housing to lightly pry outward on the small tab. Once both tabs are "released" the plastic housing will slide forward. Be careful not to exert too much force on the tabs since they are likely very brittle (from age) and will break off quite easily.

It is my experience that even if you are careful you will break those tabs off on one that old.

Thanks for the replys....yes,I know that small plastic cover is very fragile;a year ago I managed to snap off one of the tabs while replacing the bulb...real plastic surgery!! My post, though, wasn't about the small cover...it was about the larger plastic housing that actually contains the bulb and it's socket. There is a GASKET between it and the rear window...that's what I want to fix...how do I remove or,at least, substantially loosen that larger housing,so I can get to the GASKET?? Again, thanks for any advice!

dbgrate, once you remove the plastic cover on the rear shelf stop lamp the rest is self-explanatory.

Thanks for that advice/clarification...I'm a bit edgy about snapping off the one remaining tab on the cover...just for curiosity(and in case I break off the remaining tab)I went to the Benz dealer today,to get a price for a new cover..just the small rectangular piece with the two tabs,NOT the housing itself....invoice quote of $53.99,plus $3.37 tax...a mere $57.36....makes you want to be very, very careful when prying off the cover... must be amazing plastic!!!

I'd start saving up for a new one or find the roll of duct tape in the garage:).
