92 300d auxilary fan not working possible overheat
fan does not come on, temp runs over 100 to 110....will not get to 120 though an hear boiling water or bubbling behind wall where heater core is. Is this just from fan not working or are there more severe problems. I just keep putting a gallon of water in it about every other day. doesnt appear to be any leaks. may be just coming out of overflow when getting hot. This appears to be a typical problem....anyone want to chime in.?
also hear squealing noise rom pass rear wheel area. keeps doing it even when applying brakes. should i just change out the axle or could the bearing be bad too...? These two problems and ac not working. other than that, I get 34mpg. good running car... |
Stop driving it, change thermostat, water pump and see what that does. I hope the head is not cracked, the aluminum heads do not like to get hot. Also the squeeking could be a wheel bearing, I would fix the overheating problem forst.

Before you do all that you might want to check the fuse. On my E300 I had the same problem. There is a special fuse (mine is green) with a fuse on top of the fuse. Hard to explain. Its on the drive side on my car.
I replaced the fuse and all works well. |
ok. thanks for the replies guys.

You have bigger problems than your aux fan not coming on. Is the radiator hose hard after the car sits over night? I've heard the bubbling gurgling sound before and the cure was a new head. If you have to add a gallon of water every other day and the hose is hard in the morning, I'd be looking for a new head. YRMV

What happened to this car? What was the problem?

And why is this still in the gasser section?
