How to reset the FSS on C320?
FSS ==> Flexible Service System
I tried the following which is posted on http://www.4x4abc.com/ML320/ML_FSS.html for a ML320, but that didn't work on a 2001 C320. Please share the info if you have it, thanks. ================================================ How to reset FSS after an oil change: turn ignition key to position 2 press reset button twice within 4 seconds turn ignition back to pos 1 press and hold the reset button turn ignition to pos 2 keep pressing the reset button until buzzer sounds and new miles display appears |
Isn't it in your manual? I think the last time I reset my FSS I turned the key to off instead of position 1. I also had the doors closed.

Also, you probably don’t want to reset it as it will postpone your “scheduled” services – filters, fluids and related.

I don't think the reset procedure is in my manual, at least I didn't find it.
I was wondering if I can do the service A myself (car approahing 10k mark). I can do the oil change myself but I need to be able to reset the FSS. I did the first oil change back at 3k mile mark. Why not do it at the dealer? Well, for me, it is actually more convenience to do it myself on the wkn for an hour than to leave the car at the dealership for a day during the wk. thanks |
Resetting your FSS is in the owner's manual.
I set mine to 15,000 kilometer (just shy of 10K-miles) countdown. I then do an oil/filter when it has counted down to 10,000, and then again at 5,000. At 0, I do either an A or B service (alternating generally) and reset the FSS. The A service can be done by anyone who can change their own oil. On the 2001 models that have included service, I wouldn't reset the FSS myself, as it means fewer "paid for" services by MB. I would: Change my oil/filter myself every 5,000 kilometer countdown. Have MB do the A and B services at their cost when FSS reaces zero. They will then reset the FSS. I would NOT leave the oil (even Mobil 1) in for the entire interval of the FSS unless I was leasing the car and intended on returning it. Since I like to keep my cars for 400K or more, I would never dream of such long oil/filter intervals. One minor problem with DIY oil changes on the W203 cars with the M112 V-6 is the lack of a dipstick for checking the oil while filling from dry. I know MB sells one, and it would be interesting to know the price. |
Reset is done differently on the W203 chassis. The steering wheel arrow up & dowm buttons are used to display the service warning mileage remaining. Then press the reset button on the inst cluster for approx 3 sec, at that time it will ask "do you want to reset the service interval?" if you do!! then press the reset button again within 5 sec.
