560SL fuel/ignition problem
First of all. I want to say there are a amazing amount of threads that I know will help me for the next few months.
I am working on a new TV series for Disney and 1 of the vehicles bought for the show is a 86 560sl tri-black. The vehicle had been in storage for 3 yrs. It started right away and was driven around the block. Satisfied, we purchased it and transported it to a location a hour away. Upon arrival, it would not fire. We had removed the fuel and replaced it with premium but it seemed like something else was amiss. Vehicle had hydrauliced <sp> due to the key left on so replaced all injectors, and also did the fuel distributor. Now, it will idle roughly but no acceleration without backfiring. Cap and rotor are mildly corroded but cleaned up well. Here is my question: Is it possible the timing chain has jumped and to bubblegum the repair for a day, retard or advance the timing? Or could this also be that the air/fuel mixture is off? I am a newby with Bosch systems. I do realize it will need to be seen by a MB or qualified MB tech but this vehicle now plays Monday and i am getting a ulcer |
how many miles? over 100k and the chain and/or broken guides might be the problem. the dist timing will not help as it's the drivers cam that jumps. it'll jump up to 3 or 4 teeth before bending valves. the pass cam and dist stay in sync. if it's lean, it might be the cause of the backfiring, also.
you in orlando? same here. maybe we should talk as i am available. send me an email. good luck, chuck. |
