W126 fuel gage, is there a separate module?

Typical issues. I have a thread or two on it (like most here it seems). But I never saw mentioned that the inputs of the sending unit go to the speedo module of the cluster.

I replaced some stuff and the gauge has been a lot more dependable, it does not fluctuate as much. But it still shows over half a tank when empty. So I decided to play with the resistor pot near the gauge. To do so, I had to take the cluster apart. To my surprise, hooking up the round connector to the fuel gauge part did not provide any signal for temp, fuel, etc. Later I found that the six-pin connector on the back of the speedo section has to be connected too. Therefore there is some runaround of wire involved here.

I assume it was done this was as part of the fancy euro cluster with computer. But I am just wondering if when the wires leave the speedo section do they go to some other module before making back to the fuel/temp module?

By the way, I re-soldered the back of the speedo. No change from what I can tell.

Oh, and if anyone knows the pin-outs, I would like to test the sending unit resistance at the cluster to see if there is a damage wire between it and the gauge. I already checked the sending unit and it read from no resistance to 8 or .8 or whatever (not very good at reading resistance with a meter).

The tank unit should read between 5-6 ohm full & around 85-90 ohms empty.
