W124 rear dust sheilds

How do I remove the rear dust sheilds? Once the caliper and disc is removed, should I be looking for another screw/bolt?

the rear shields cannot be removed unless the hub is removed beforehand, which is a pretty involved job. as i recall they are held with three small socket cap screws.

Well believe it or not, my buddies rear wheel came off. It didn't happen at a high rate of speed. It seemed as if the lugs weren't tightened properly. nevertheless the dust shield was damaged just a bit from the impact of the car hitting the ground.

Probably best to straighten the existing dust shield and leave well enough alone.

This.

I don't think you'll have issues. Or just cut it off in the areas needed.
