91 300e 4matic engine same as 300e from the pan up?
 

Anyone have info on this I have a chance to get a working 4matic with a cooked engine and a 88 300e with cosmetic/transmission issues but a good engine. Can I swap the pan down components between these two, What might I run into that would be a deal killer. I am mostly a diesel guy but an gas curious. Cheers Dan

I've done it. There are a few oil pan bolt holes in the block that you have to drill out to 6mm as the bolt goes into the pan from above where the axles are. The oil pump will have be swapped. Otherwise you will also have a second dipstick, which may or may not interfere with something in the pan, I kept the 4-M stick and removed and plugged off the other.

In that case, I wonder if you could mate up the differential/oil pan with a M104 or even a OM693.

I know that the 103, 104, 603 and 606 share the same oil pan gasket, though the 4-matic pan doesn't use a gasket, just sealer. I dunno about the 693. I recall seeing in WIS that there were 124ch 4-matics with the 603 offered in Europe though I've never even seen pics of one.

If I ever win the lottery I'm gonna find a clean 124 4-M wagon and swap in a mechanical pump 606 turbodiesel.

what is the problem with that engine? The owner said her mechanic told her it needed to be replaced, do you know why? She didn't know. She insists the 4matic works can you confirm that?
It is a good price even for just the leather interior!
