E320 Cluster Illumination
I'm having some Issues with Cluster Illumination on my E320 wagon, I'm trying to sort this crap out before putting it back into service while I figure out my other wagon,
I have no Illuumination, All my gauges work, turn signals idiot lights etc all of them work, just the illumination section does not, I've tried one of my rebuilt clusters that I know work, and it's the same thing. One thing I did notice while the cluster was in there, and the battery was in there, the illumination on all the switches etc never stayed on, they would Flicker, My Oil pressure Gauge is always pegged at 3 bar. I think it should work like my wagon does and fluctuate with the rpm of the engine (I know first hand that it's always pegged even thought there's no oil pressure or oil for that matter...) I have replaced all the Fuses in the fuse box with brand new ones, Dropped a batt in, no change, I pulled the cluster out and checked every one of the bulbs out, no burnt outs (one missing, but have since replaced) I've checked the grounds in the cluster area, cleaned them up and no improvement... Is there some sort of illumination module that I can check or something I might have missed? This problem has Flummoxed me. on a side note, I did take up the center console again and cleaned up the grounds under there too.. Any ideas or inputs will be helpful.

Usually when an oil pressure gauge is pegged and will not move it is due to a bad ground. They are not easy to find or fix. Usually I end up actually pulling the gauge off the instrument cluster electrical board and cleaning the contacts that ground it to the cluster board. It is not fun but it can be done.
