Interesting A/C issue

Hey guys,

Recently, my A/C has been acting very oddly. Compressor engages when I hit the button to use it, and functions beautifully, aside from a slight squeal from the belt on some days; I suspect humidity being the cause. If I hit the Economy button, it will blow fresh air, and on occasion, accompanied with a squeal from the accessory belt, the A/C compressor will kick in intermittently. Same symptoms when I turn the system off as well.

What can be causing this kind of symptom? And how do I go about tightening the accessory belt tensioner to stop the squealing?

Thanks,

Carlen

If I'm not mistaken - the V-8 420/560 SELs use independent belts as opposed to the smaller M103 serpentine belt motor.

What condition is your a/c belt in?

This fourm features a lot of how-to work in a diyer section. I'd check there for W126 era V-8 belt adjustment/replacement procedures.

Yep, individual belts all over; this one is pretty new (40,000 miles though), and in really good shape in my opinion. The squeal started after I had the compressor serviced, so I'm thinking it's tensioner adjustment.

However, the clutch engaging in economy and while off is another issue I'd think would be isolated from that... I'll check the service manual for the adjustment though.
