Question 89 560SEL - Turn the nob????

Okay so my 89 560SEL has been shifting harder and harder. No slipping just VERY hard shifts. I called my mechanic and he said there is nob on the right side of the transmission needs to be adjust and turn a half turn counter clock wise. It's has something to do with the vacumme system. Does anyone know how to do this? Where is the nob? How to I access it? He said its very easy to do. I'm clueless. HELP!!

Search for "modulator" or "vacuum modulator".

However, if your trans is shifting harder and harder, the adjustment probably wont help. Its likely a sign of a vacuum leak or maybe a failing modulator. Thus adjusting will be a short-term solution, if it even works. The modulator is not designed to fix a problem.

Its a very sensitive part. I did not think I was having any either, then I found a snapped line. Improved my lambda readings (better power/economy) and the trans felt better. If it were not for my harsh shifts, I would have not thought anything was wrong. I did actually replace my modulator anyway, thats when I found out it was not the issue. Shifts remained harsh.

Does anyone have photos of where to locate modulator and hoses leading to it?

Does the car need to be put on a lift to access the module? All hoses seem to be fine at the back of engine buy the firewall. yes, I removed the air filter housing before inspecting.

I bet the rubber vac tube connecter came off the Modulator valve. I just repaired mine this morning on my Gen II Euro 500SEC. it shifted fine when I got it, but all of a sudden it started to shift hard and engine acted like a vac leak. got under her this A.M. and the vac hose was disconnected, but the rubber hose connector felt like a gummy bear so I replaced it and now everything is good.
