Lower Harness Re-furbishment

The lower harness can be stripped out and repaired. The main starter feed cable should be ok for re-use. Just replace the starter trigger, alternator field feed, oil pressure and level sensor cables.

As the instrument bulkhead transition plate is so crowded and difficult to fit on my 500E I routed the starter trigger, alternator field feed, oil pressure and level sensor cables past the right front suspension turret, under the coolant header tank and thence to the engine.

Some shrink wrap insulation is handy.

Routing the starter feed down the back of the engine is fairly easy if you put a fishing line down to pull the large cable back up. Remember the cable routing clips, I think there are 2.

That's a pretty good price given that the list is now up $170. It was a hundred dollar part just 3-4 years ago. But indeed it is pretty easy to rebuild. The two main wires are fine, it's just the 4 smaller ones that need to be replaced or reinsulated. If you take it out and look at it you may be overcome with the urge to rebuild it.
