Just make sure the A/C works, and be alert for flaring between shifts. If no A/C you can deduct ~1K for a new condenser, etc. Otherwise, very few would dispute the solid value and quality of a 124 car, if the car is rust free and runs well it's certainly a $3K car.

If the car has service records and appears to be well taken care of then it would be a good buy if it checks out okay. Make sure the wiring harness has been replaced. Definitely make sure the A/C is functional.

I thought the wiring issue was only for 1992 and 1993 only? no?

They had problems with them until 1995-1996 or so.

to the drivers side of the battery..there should be a grey tag...it will have the born on date for the wiring harness.

i'd say it's a good deal..... especially if you can get another 20k out of the rubber.

two and a half years ago...i paid 3200 for my 1995 e320 with 118k on it.... it did need brakes and rotors immediately.

all i've done since then is a battery, fan bearing bracket, fan clutch, spark plugs and connectors and fluids.... it now has 160k....

Wiring harness is probably about a $1000 + job at a shop. I would offer $2000 or look for one with updated harness.

wiring harness affects 1993-1995 HFM cars.

1993 W124's are 300E 2.8 and 300E (3.2)
1994-1995 cars are E320

He's asking $3,000 which seems close to market value to me.

I think he'd take less than $2,800.

I'd offer $2,000 or $2,200, and try to close the deal at $2,500.

Ben, strongly recommend having a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) performed by a MB-trained tech who knows that vintage MB automobile. That way you will know if there are any major repairs pending.

how does he know it's original....see if you can find the "born on" tag...

maybe then you can get it for the low 2's..... whole big can of worms if it is original...

i can't imagine too many originals left..... the one on my 95 was replaced in 99.......

The value of a 94/95 E320 is very very dependent on the status of the expensive to repair common failure items. These items are: wire harness, throttle actuator, head gasket, AC evporator, and reverse clutches. In my opinion, a car in good cosmetic/mechanical condition with records showing that the above items have been addressed can be worth $7K. On the other hand, that same car with none of the above items addressed is a $500 car max. Just my opinion......
