190e, 2.6 Power Steering Leak
I have an '89 190e, 2.6 that appears to be leaking a little power steering fluid. Is this a common problem with the 190e, and how big a job is it to remove/rebuild the ps pump or replace hoses?

If it looks like hoses, start by replacing the return hoses.

My 190 was down quite a bit one day about 3 years ago. I refilled it and never had to add fluid again. If it ain't too bad leave it alone.

I replaced the seals on my ZF pump in less than 30 minutes and it has not leaked a drop in over a year. it is the shaft seal that normally leaks due to wear from grease, sand, oil, etc. The whole job took about 2 hours from start to finish.

I had a steering fluid leak - I was thinking it was my pump. It turned out to be the power steering return hose - a 3/8" hose costing $1.00 at any auto store.
Take off the plastic lower shield and see where it's leaking - maybe you'll get lucky and find it's something simple. |
