1992 W124 OVP Help

On my 1992 300TE wagon with base engine (no 4matic).......

Just started having cold start and idle issues with both the ASR and ABS lights on. Cars runs OK with rough idle otherwise. Based everything I have read, it looks like my OVP is bad (alternator and battery are OK).

The OVP in my car has one 10 amp fuse. The one I purchased on-line looks like it has two 10 amp fuses. Is this an OK switch? A newer version or something generic?

If I did buy the incorrect unit, can someone point me to the correct part on-line?

Thanks for the advice!!

Charlie

Charlie, check the condition of the voltage regulator brushes. If the voltage regulator hasn't been replaced in years it's likely the brushes are worn down to nubs.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I will replace the OVP anyway, since it is inbound. Just curious if it is an OK replacement, based on the new one having an extra fuse.

I will do the regulator too regardless. I am getting 14 volts out of the alternator under load, but who knows. Where is it located and how hard is it to get out? I am assuming it is mounted to the alternator. I have never seen a regulator with bruishes... usually just some electronics....

Oh well....

Thanks

Yes, Charlie, the new style 9-pin OVP has two 10-amp fuses and is the correct upgrade for your older style relay with a single fuse.

OMG!! Popped that new OVP in and the car started and runs perfectly!!

On tio the next issue... blower motor is dead!!
