Removing head on 1985 300SD

Hi, folks. New guy here.

This board was recommended to me by Nate, from another board.

I have an 1985 300SD that, I think, has a blown head gasket. I love this car and so does my wife and I think our dog does, too.

Now, normally, pulling a head is fairly straight-forward. In this case, I don't want to remove anything that is not necessary and, I WISH TO REMOVE PARTS IN PROPER SEQUENCE. Having said all of that, is there any guru here that can direct me to a site that would describe how to do this PROPERLY?

Someone said that if the head bolts were removed willy-nilly, that it may break the camshaft.

I just want to get our baby back on the road and I would also change the timing chain and associated parts.

Thank you for any help that you can proffer.

Joe
