new ride,'89 300 TE

So after my W109 died on me I went on the hunt for another MB. yesterday this one showed up locally and I took it home today.
It is an '89 300 TE, 96,000 miles, drives great, runs great but obviously isnt without faults. the PO said it has a slow battery drain and it has had accident damage in the past.
I am completely new and ignorant to this model. Monday I am gonna take it over to my alignment guy who is a MB BMW and Porsche specialist to give it a look over as well as look at the front end for me.
Anyone have suggestions as to what else I should take a look at or preventative maintenance I should consider doing?

thanks in advance

Looks good to me!

Of course a good look over & compression test is a good start.

If you haven't already, check the self-leveling system. All MB wagons have a self-leveling system for the back end. The test is real simple. With the engine not running put alot of weight in the very back, enought to see the rear end droop. Start the engine and rev it a bit and you should see the back end raise up.

When I had my '87 300TD I made several trips to Home Depot weighted the car down with bags of mulch and landscaping rocks. The wheels were up into the wheel well. Someone made a comment on how I will be scrapping the bottom as a I drive. I told him "watch this", I simply started the engine and rev'd her up and the back end went up. That person's jaw dropped.

Thanks for the input. Its been running great.
I already ordered a new hood latch release handle and correct oil filter. Next week I'll get it aligned as it is chewing up the front tires, while its on the lift I'll take that opportunity to inspect the front and rear ends for any thing funny.
other than that I need new speakers and need to find an original paint hood, FL fender and drivers door.
