Bosch Altitude Compensator
On the Pagoda SL Group web site, they've got a great technical discussion about the altitude compensator (compensates for changes in air pressure (or outside temperature) by varying the amount of fuel injected based on the atmospheric pressure.)
Yahoo search: bosch altitude compensator injection pump Anyway, my 95 606 has one on the ip and I think it may have failed and could be the cause my slooooow starts with cold engine and lack of power at speed. I'm not sure, but I'm narrowing down possible problems. (down to: blocked cat, shot lift pump, i.p.) I removed the compensator on my ip to change glow plugs a few months ago. Ever since its been crappy to take off after sitting. Has anyone ever replaced this part on their I.P. (diesel or gas)? Any clue where I could buy a new one? Thanks.

We diesel lot call it an ALDA - I don't know what it is for you petrol heads - could be the same.
There are poo loads of threads on what it does how it works and how to get rid of it on the forum. Here are some search results that might help http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/141684-alda-how-can-you-tell-if-its-good-sure.html http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/111467-alda.html There are also a write up in the wiki PeachPartsWiki: OM603 ALDA Removal/Adjustment Instructions Happy searching! I hope these links help.

Not a petrol head. Inquiring about the compensator for the i.p. on my MB 606 N/A diesel engine. Since compensators are also used on the gasser i.p. I thought I wouldn't limit the question to only the diesel forum. Casting the net wider I guess.
Roger that on the 603. My understanding is that on turbocharged engines, a boost compensator performs a function similar to that of the ALDA. On the n/a 606 it's called altitude compensator, barometric cell or aneroid compensator and when it fails, my guess is that it fails in the "runs shi_tty" position. Without a boost compensator (because no turbo), the compensator may play a very important role in performance. I don't know but I'm trying to find out. I checked ALDA-related threads. The 606 compensator is not adjustable. Thanks Army. Cheers.

Sorry to have skimmed your post and got focused on the SL part!
There is some information in the FSM (available via MB startekinfo)... http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/12264/Program/engine_605_comb.htm ...that might help (if you don't already have the FSM => though this is for an OM606 that is fitted to a W124 - W210 stuff isn't released for free yet)
