Wink rag top operations

I have a 06 clk 350 cabriolet with keyless go.The remote does not work well: I basically have to touch the door handle with the remote to open or close the top. Sometime it stops half way open, Then I have to go inside the car, start the car and finish lowering or raising with the console switch. I was underthe impression that this operation could be achieved up to 50 ft away or more. The car battery is working fine and, as earlier sugested ,replace the remote batteries, and so far , no succes. I tried running the car with the key in the ignition for a little while(suppose to syncronise remote and receiver)still no succes.
I will appreciate any suggestion.
Thanks
Marcel

The radio frequency locking/unlocking will work from fifty feet away, but the summer opening feature works by infra-red, so you need to aim the remote at the IR receiver on the exterior door handle. In my experience, this feature will only work from 1-2 meters max.

The easiest test is to see if it works the same way when using another key. The IR receivers are known to go bad as well.

Cool rag top operation

Thanks for your prompt reply. As you suggested , I used the second remote and all it does is lock and unlock the doors, or trunk; not the slightest motion from the top or even electronic noise. (I must say, I never used this key before for that purpose, first I should check the battery!!!!!!!
If it is the sensor, can I trust the dealer to give me an honest diagnoses. Is this an expensive part, or is it a DIY job?
Thanks
