560 sl fuel level transducer

i want to clean or inspect the fuel level probe because i get erratic fuel indications.
does the transducer screw out?
it looks like i would need a 46mm socket for this.
anybody got any experience in removing this probe?

That is how it comes out, but you should have a new one in hand if you remove the old one. Also, don't forget to order an o-ring.
