w124 blower motor, access not under wiper
Hi,
I have a '89 300TD. I attempted to access the bower motor from under the wiper and got as far as the motor/cage case to discover I cannot access it this way. The car is a LHD from Japan. I had prepurchased a used w124 blower motor and I also noticed when I had the car disassembled under the wiper, that the squirrel cages (I could see through the vent holes) were much closer together on the car than the replacement set up. Does anyone know about these cars? Someone told me that it's the cars with AC that the blowers come out through under the wiper. This car has no AC. Thanks, Jay |

the original A/C equipped W124 cars have dual fan wheels under the wiper motor, the later models which have a dust filter have smaller diameter but wider face fan wheels which appear to be closer together.
if your car has one fan wheel on the motor it originally did not have A/C and was fitted aftermarket. those are the only 3 variations that exist on a W124

As far as I know, there is only one way to get at the blower motor & regulator on a W124 and that is underneath the windshield wiper. That goes for both early cars and the 94 and 95 W124s with the cabin filters. They are accessed essentially the same way.

problem solved
Just in case this is helpful to anyone...This car had 2 separate Bosch fans with their own motors. The PVC heating system box had been frankensteined with these fans glued, taped, and pop rivetted in there. I had to take the whole system apart and refabricate the box using a second donor box and the expected fan set up, which can now be accessed from under the wiper, like it is supposed to be.
