Odometer

What's the trick getting the needle off the speedometer?

I remember seeing a photo somewhere but I cannot remember where. Here is what most people do.

1) Get 2 identical metal tea spoons
2) Put it on either side underneath the needle with the lip of the spoon right underneath.
3) Put a masking tape on the odo surface where the spoon touches it to stop any scratching.
4) force down gently on the spoon handles at same time, the spoon will be like a lever, and the needle will pop out.
5) I did it on a number of gauges with great success.

Hope this help.

Sounds like it will work.

I'll try it.
Thanks

What's the trick

I have several pieces on that shaft, where to place the spoons and how much pressure. Don't want to mess it up ?

I cannot find a picture of it but this is another link. Others can chime in. I have nothing more to offer.

Good luck.

How do you remove the gauge needles? : MGB & GT Forum : MG Experience Forums : The MG Experience

I used a fork. Be careful. The needle goes flying!

I use a door pin popper. I would recommend a firm but even rocking motion and keeping a second hand on the top of it so that you don't loose the needle when it comes off. Don't forget to reset the spring when you put it back together, otherwise the needle won't return to rest position.
