"black boxes" under pass. footwell?
I haven't ordered the CD -ROM yet...........but will soon. My question is .........What is the black box that is underneath the passenger footwell carpeting/sound deadining mat for? Thanx in advance!:)
|
Airbag perhaps?
That what it says in my car atleast but then I have a slightly never car with airbags on both sides. |
Sounds like the alarm control unit. About 6" long & 2 electrical connections?? Maybe "BECKER" name on the case.
|
Probably both the alarm and voltage accumulators for the SRS, as well as the connection for the crash sensor.
|
could be box that also controls day time running lights (my 91 300e has it) or mobile phone
|
Size
What are the dimensions of this box? Bear

I agree with M.B. Doc, sounds like the Becker alarm control unit. I was just messing around with mine the other day. ;) Pull out the the black faux fire wall and there it is.
|
Thanx for the response. It does say "Becker" on the box. I was concerned because when I found it, the connector was disconnected from the box. Maybe there is a problem with the alarm system? The car has an alarm system that works..........but I think now that it is not the factory installed unit. I am going thru this car completely so everything I'm finding that doesn't belong is going to be corrected to factory specs.

mine is missing. wondered what exactly goes there?
keep us posted!! |
black box
It is most likely the alarm, and I'm sure it has been disconected for a reason.
My alarm used to go off for no reason at the worst times. I learned from this site to disconnect it. problem solved! no alarm, (I dont like it anyway) |
One of the most common reasons those factory alarms go off is bec. they short out inside the door. This happened to my car when some minor body work was done on the driver's door and the shop forgot to reconnect the wire to the locking mechanism inside the door. The wire could be viewed by removing the rubber stopper/plug near the door latch.
