126 tranny won't shift when cold
I don't know why I haven't asked this before. The transmission an my '90 300SE won't shift out of second (starting) gear when it's stone cold in the morning until it reaches 32mph (that's where the first shift dot is on the speedo). If I let it warm up for a couple of minutes it shifts fine.
This only happens on the very first shift, after that, it's O.K. It does this if its 30 degrees or 100 out. The tranny is a Mercedes recuild with about 50K on it. I plan on doing a fluid change as soon as I get a weekend that's not too cold to crawl around on cold concrete. Any ideas? Bill |
THat is normal! It won't shift until engine temperature reaches 35 degrees C (50C coolant), or until 31 mph. It does this to warm up the catalytic converter quicker.
