1993 600SL diagnostic code translation !

Hi Guys, I have a 93 600SL with the infamous ASR issue. Seems to only happen when its up to full operating temperature, then stopped for gas etc, then on restart does the ASR thing. Sometimes recycling the ignition will cure the problem, but more than often it stays in LH mode. If I mash the accelerator pedal, I can seem to avoid the ASR mode. Although that can be fun, enough is enough ! I've made sure the accelerator linkage has a bit of slack, tried it tight, might be a touch better with a bit of slack. I have the built in LED and push button in the computer bay. I can't seem to find codes specific to that device. I am not probing the 38 pin connector. That is there for a reason, and someone must know where the table is for those blinks. I have 6 and 38. Clear them, try to drive still hot, and ASR right away. I have not replaced the throttle closed switch on the accelerator pedal yet. My injector wiring harness is perfect, pliable and vivid colors. Seems newish ! My Starter harness exhibits the cracking, but as no wires are touching or bare, I have not replaced that yet.
The pre-purchase Star Diagnostics indicated that the left TA was faulty. Of course they wanted $2,800.00 for another ! I have cut the sheathing up on the fender, and that wiring looked good. When I get a new gasket, I am going to remove the Left TA and take the cover off and check that wiring.
For the moment, I sure would like those fault codes specific to my vehicle and the built in push button LED. Thanks Guys !

You are reading check engine codes from the "diagnostic module" (DM)

DM codes are very vague, code 6 simply means that the EA/CC/ISC computer has a stored fault.

To get the real info...you need a MB scanner that can read the codes from the EA/ISC computer.

Check out the thread and the links in the thread that I provided. It shows how to build the LED code reader and how to use it. And buried in there is a pdf copy of the code book that includes your model. This book is slightly too large to link in this forum.

Reading a code is a good thing, BUT with scanner you get 100% more info including live data & diagnostic info that a simple blink code doesn't give you!

The 1992-95 SL600 is a brute that can suck in $2K at any point, spend a few $$$
and get the info needed for a good diagnosis.

Update ! I rewired both TA's and no more A$$ Reamer ! (asr ). The wire in both was insulated by the granular remains of the old insulation. The car now runs flawlessly. No lights, no nothing! The V12 is amazing when all is right with the world !

How did we ever get away from driving a simple machine to driving a damned computer?
