Do I need front end alignment after new front struts installation?
Recently had alignment done after replacement of center link and tie rods on 300E. Now contemplating new Bilsteins up front. If I'm not doing anything else, will I need to worry about messing up alignment?
Thanks for help. (posted here to get "technical" answer. If I need to post in wheels forum please advise). |
The new struts could possibly affect camber,,,, not for sure, but could. If it were mine, I would definately check alignment after installation.

Yes, most definately get the front end aligned first thing after replacing the struts - even driving a few miles can begin to ruin the tires if the alignment is off much. To get the alignment close mark the mounting position of the old struts before removing them and re-install them as close as possible to the original position (mark with a felt pen, marks-a-lot, chalk, etc.). Then drive immediately to the closest alignment shop that is reputable.
Good Luck! Tom |
Another YES!! Camber can change.

I don't think camber can change through the mounting bolts at the bottom of the strut as I think they are fixed in one position. Your caster and camber are adjusted on the lower control arm inboard bolts. I was thinking of a posible change in sag, which really should be minimal.

I know possible is spelled with 2 s's. I hate when that happens.
