Help! 89 190e 2.6 pulley fell off- replace just the pulley??

Did a quick search here- lots about tensioner replacement, not a lot on pulley failure. Mine came off, stuck in the fan blades but otherwise car ran ok.

Looking at the remains (pulley wheel fine, bearing races gone away, half dozen ball bearings in pan under engine, belt kinda chewed up), how does the pulley mount on the shaft? What held it in place? Front cover was still on pulley.

Reading manual and posts here I get the tensioner replacement- but seeing as how the pulley is sold on its own can the pulley be replaced and the belt installed via loosening the altenator? Are the bearing races what keep it on? I cannot for the life of me get a good look at the shaft because of the location. Is there a bolt that goes in under the plastic snap on cover?

Yes, there is a bolt under the plastic cover that holds the pulley in place.

Thanks-

I finally got my hand in there and could feel the bolt, especially after getting a replacment tensioner and pully assembly.
Took the pully off the new tensioner, took the remains of the pully off the old tensioner and put on the new pulley, with a new belt. All seems well.

Now to chase down the vibration in the right front wheel- more bearing issues I think.
