CLK Cabrio hearests / rollbar stuck, top inoperable, C209?

I have a bud whose 2008 CLK550 (C209, right?) has the rear headrests stuck in the deployed position. The top is down and the windows are about a third up FWIW. After searching I have found - DUH - a link on the MB site to the owners' manual (duh again) which seems to answer my question, but he hit something hard enough to flatten a tire and deploy the roll bars, so is there something else that needs to be done or will the windows and top work again after I magically carry out the procedure below?

Please have pity on my poor ignorant friend. He is just a dentist and cannot comprehend the big words in the owners manual!:rolleyes:

I certainly DO wish that his car was on my sig (i.e., that it was MY car)! But alas it is not, I assure you.

Now I am faced with a moral quandary - to let him proceed to the dealer appointment he has made (thus assuring the poor car will receive the maintenance it will otherwise never see); or to fix it for him, saving him the $1000 "welcome to the MB family" admission fee (AKA, dealer fleecing) he will need to pay! Maybe I will do both - fix the top just before he has to go to the app't so at least his minion won't get rained on (and no I am not the minion this time, although I would've been glad to do it).

Dealers typically don't charge for resetting the roll bars, play dumb and don't mention the tire incident. All it takes is a long screw driver or 1/4" extension to push the trap door down while you simultaneously push the headrests down. You might want to consider learning the trick if you or he plan on owning the car for a while.

Are we talkin' about MERCEDES dealers? Here, they charge you for breathing the air in the waiting room!:D

Also, I see that is a simple procedure. It is a moral decision I need to make. And as I consider him a friend, I know I'll fix it free, and in his garage.
