Searched the forum and could not find any info., so need your help. I have a 2000 E430 (W210). Want to safely and properly remove the shift knob. What are the procedures?

Also, am replacing the plastic insert on the shift knob with a "Sport" insert. I know the new one is glued on, but what is the proper procedure for taking out the old one?
