1992 Temp Gauge - 190E

Helping out a friend, her temp guage does not work, I have read that the 3 pole plug on top of the thermostat housing is the sender .
I cannot find a part number , nor can I find the specs for it to test. I guess it could be in the guage

Help or thoughts appreciated!

I believe that 3 prong thing is the aux fan high speed switch and A/C compressor cut out, the temp sensor should be a single pole sensor.

I believe Zulfiqar is correct, the dash gauge is a single pole unit. On the m103 I think its on the head somewhere not in the thermostat housing. I'm not sure about the m102. There is also a 4 pin unit that provides temp signals to the EZL and CIS-E computer.

hmm that is why this is so confusing , there is one on the water pump , single pole , but I have been told that is not it...:(

I Actually dealt with this awhile back
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/188571-lost-sea-senders-190e-1992-a.html

and never did resolve it -- a temp guage that does not work ,and lots of senders. :)

the 4 pin one is for EZL- CIS etc, the single pin on the water pump housing would be for shift softening, the three prong is for the A/C cutout and high speed fan kick on, the temp needle sender would be about in the middle of the head or near the firewall.

Usually MB engines have 3 sensors. Some have 4 for shift softening.

I'll have a look!

anyone with part number ?

meltedpanda 07-17-2012 11:54 AM

A0055422617 EPC shows this as part number , but where it goes still baffles me. It looks like the one on the side of the water pump, I know that is no it

That part number looks correct. I think they moved the around a bit on the m103. When I get a chance I'll look on mine.

Here it is on a 1984-85 190E 2.3 To the left, below the 3 up on top that you can see. Has a single wire plugged onto it.

Thanks all, I tried to gorund the plugs of all the single poles I could see and nothing happend to the guage. perhaps I have a bad guage, and thanks for the picture , not quite the same as mine:( I have two on the top, no single poles and one on the water pump, all I can see

2.3 OR 2.6 engine?
It matters because they use a Special sensor in the 2.3 engine.

The 1991-93 2.3 uses what looks like an aux fan switch on earlier cars.

It is a 3 pole black sensor in the head, the single pole is for the temp gauge.

it is a 2.3 - 4 banger, is it shown in this picture?

They keep changing these cars. No wonder they cost so much!!!

Hope that you can now get your temp gauge working. Try grounding the terminal (with the switch on) now.
