Remove Oil Dipstick - M119.975

I'm changing out the thermostat on the E420 (w124 1995)

Just need to remove the oil dipstick tube to access the third bolt on the thermostat.

The tube is loose, and comes up about 2 inches - then is stuck. And still very limited access to the bolt. Crawling under the car doesn't reveal the sticking point.

Or is there a trick to access the bolt without removing the dip stick.

Neil has a great page for the water pump. The dipstick tube was not mentioned.

All my searches seem to come up with Oil Removal techniques, not oil tube removal techniques.

Thanks

The skilled mechanic solved all

Took the car to my trusted mechanic.

He had the old thermostat out and the new one in - in short order.

Now, if I could just get him to tell me how he did the magic.

But Bill, he says, if I tell you my secrets you will stop coming back

:-(

But the car is running well again.
