OM603 Injector Question
1 Attachment(s)
I recently installed new injectors, heat shields, and braided return lines on my 87 300SDL. A very easy job indeed. I ran into an issue that I have to question...
The old injectors (originals) were all exactly inline with each other, with the fuel return fittings pointing from firewall to radiator. With the new injectors, #'s 1-4 are lined up this way, but #5 and #6 are turned exactly 90 degrees, with the fuel return fittings running left to right. It does not appear to be a problem and everything is operating as it should. I just want to be certain this is okay. I've even removed and reinstalled the injectors a few times, but once torqued, they always are seated differently than the others. |
That is normal.
Be sure to wrap that wiring harness with tape. Go all the way to as far as the tape will allow you to reach. |
Why new injectors
I've got an 87 with close to 100K mi. I'm looking for less smoke. Tell me about yours. How does it run? I thought you had to have all sorts of calibration gear to tune the injectors correctly.

Now my 300SDL runs absolutely superb. It starts/runs/drives just fine. The only time it smokes a little is after starting on a cold day or under hard acceleration / full power. Other than that, it is great. No visible smoke on the highway or under moderate acceleration.
The injector replacement was very easy. I ran into 2 minor problems...1. Two of the old injectors were VERY difficult to remove. It took a 3 ft extender on the socket to remove them. Then one of my new injectors was leaking where the injector body screws into the larger housing. I also replaced the heat shields under the injector, the braided fuel return hoses, and used some anti-seize on the new injectors. The process was pretty straight forward. 1. Remove crossover pipe 2. Remove the pre-bent fuel lines running from pump to injectors 3. Remove braided fuel return lines and end plug 4. Remove injectors and heat shields 5. Install new heat shields 6. Install injectors after applying a SMALL amount of anti-seize and torque to spec 7. Reinstall braided fuel lines and plug 8. Reinstall pre-bent fuel lines and seals at the pump end. I think it took about 30 or 45 min to do the job. In the last 50k miles, my car has had several thousand $$$ in work including front-end suspension rebuild, radiator, new trans and torque converter, new head/valves, timing chain/guides, AC work, and a new dash. My next projects are new front brakes and rotors, a new stereo system, and a new exhaust resonator and pipe. I have the stereo equipment and rotors/pads for the brakes, just need to find the time to do it. I've yet to look for a resonator. I noticed it just the other day when I was poking around under the car. There just ins't any other car out there quite like an MB, and I'm biased toward the W126. My car has abour 255k miles on it now and is still rock solid. I'm sure you are enjoying yours. |
Injector Torque ???
Would someone know what the injector torque is for an OM603.
