Steering wheel Locked W/key turned in ON position
 

1997 s320 w140 series . Ignition will turn on and even crank but steering wheel remains locked ! Help . Where do I start and is there a way to do this inexpensively ? Thanks to anyone who can advise me on how to fix this awful problem. !:confused:

There are a few different cables running to the ignition switch, one from the shifter and one from the brake pedal, I am thinking one of these is the cause. Try stepping down o hard on the brake pedal and see if that allows it to go to the off position, also try pushing the shift lever towards the dash a little more.

If after I perform these suggestions , should I begin dismantling column or is this a task I should not undertake ? My hand and finger strength is greatly impaired at this time . I'm on the mend from a car crash.Thank you for your previous reply . I can't wait to feel the power of the 3.2 . As big as the W-140 series are , that D.O.H.C. , F.I. 3.2 propells that land yacht like a nimble performance car !
