The 210 # is the bell housing part number, not the transmission number.

I believe the R means a factory rebuilt transmission.

The number will be on the left side of the trans body, near ish the bell housing.

Did it look like the original number was ground off and a new one stamped on? The original 30 mm x 25 mm ish rectangular number pad has a machined surface. My 97 SL 320 had a factory trans installed when the car was a few years old.

The complete VB part number is 140 270 06 06 ( All VB have a 270 so they don't bother to etch it )

Just a quick word to say that the C43 is now back on the road and the transmission shifts are super smooth both up and down the ratios.

The P0715 code indeed needs to be cleared with a STAR diagnostic system, or a clone system. I have a clone from Carsoft in Belgium CARSOFT Mercedes V12 System - Single Brand which costs around 200Euros and comes with everything needed (hardware and software). It works great and I'm starting to get to know it better. It seems to have a multitude of technical instructions, etc.

I'm now really happy that the repair went well and look forward going to Italy for two weeks vacation with the C43

Unhappy

Hello all, I've been reading these forums (pelican parts/benzworld etc.) for years now to help me keep my 98' C43 AMG on the road. Unfortunately, as of late the transmission seems to be acting up.

@DRBC43AMG (or anyone who knows the answer)
You ended up not changing the regulator spring? Or did you buy the correct sonnax spring and replace it? (Assuming a bigger one) do you still have the old spring?

I have a 1998 C43 with some horrible symptoms:
- A harsh and clunky sounding shift from 2-3 (10% throttle or more)
- When quickly decelerating, car slips into neutral and tries to go into gear without compensating enough rpm during the 3-2 shift, and 2-1 shift
- I get a hard shift and/or shift flare if I go over 3500RPM in 2nd or more than 50% throttle in 2nd (it's scary at times, and others almost considered smooth)
- At times I will lose 5th gear on the highway and it will shift into 4th. If I hit cruise control "+" it will shift back into 5th, and I don't hit "off" on cruise control to cruise back to normal for a little while...Before it eventually goes back into 4th on its own.
245k miles, complete trans rebuilt @ 147k miles using AMG replacement clutchpacks/etc except for the Torque Converter and TCU. TCU is dry, fluid is at max level @80°C.

Only codes I have/had are:
- (cleared, unreturned) P/N solenoid circuit sometimes faulty y/66 (unplugged my shift module to vinyl wrap my wood trim)
- P0100 - MAF circuit fault (removed and cleaned MAF, fault has not returned, car has more pep and idles smoother but shifting issues persist)

Would like her to make it a bit longer. Any advice is greatly appreciated, Thanks!
