m104 detachable bell housing

Does anyone know what was teh first year mercedes made a detachable bell houisng for the M104 motor? What is 1996 or 1997?

Thanks

I think the 722.6 all have it. Lots of applications. I think 1996 was the first year, but wait for someone else's input.

722.6 v8

I know the 722.6 v8 had a bell housing. But I am lookng for an m104 bell housing and not sure they made one because I know shortly after the 722.6 came out, the six cylinder went to a v6. I am looking for a detatchable bell to fit an M104 (in line 6)

All electronic shift 5 speed 722.6 trans have a removable bell housing.

97 E320 / SL320 3.2 inline 6 cars for sure had this trans, not sure if 96 was electronic shift. ( Hydraulic shift had a vac modulator on the left side , electronic did not have any modulator. )

This bell hsg carried on to the SLK ( 230 ? ) M111 4 cylinder that could be gotten with a manual trans but power handling is limited. It may have also been used in the late 80's early 90's 190E. ( The 99 V6 uses more of a round V8 pattern )

What are you trying to do?

Does the M111 have the same pattern as the M103 and M104 motors/trannies?

So 98 e320's were still inline 6's?

Thanks

The M111 is a cut down M104 so the BH pattern is the same.

There should be some pics in this thread

I'm not sure what engine the 98 E320 had. car-part ( add the com ) is a salvage yard inventory data base. One can infer interchanges by carefully reading the donor car listing on the left.

BTW, the manual trans in the thread looks to be a NSG370 6 speed. This was found in the SLK and ( with different belhousing ML , Chrysler Crossfire , Jeep Wrangler / Liberty since 05 )

The Mercedes units have a cable shifter where the Jeep has a built in shifter. ( see novak-adapt.com then look for NSG370 )

Cable shifter

Does that mean this is not a clutch foot pedal clutch activated tranny?
I am looking for a clutch pedal type tranny to put in an M104.

All are hydraulic clutch. The Mercedes units have a cable _shifter_ where the Jeep has a built in shifter. ( see novak-adapt.com then look for NSG370 )
