300E - sharp gas pedal angle and stiff resistance
 

Any suggestions as to how to reduce/flatten the steep angle of gas pedal and to reduce stiffness in pedal resistance

I used some light weight motor oil to lubricate the throttle linkage on my 300E and it worked great!

Just FYI - MB accelerators are designed this way... lubricating the throttle linkage will take away some of the resistance and make the action smoother, but I'm not sure there's much else that can be done. After awhile, you get used to it... I find the feather-light accelerators in other cars about as annoying as you probably find the stiff pedal in your mercedes...! :)

I have changed the springs around the throttle linkages to softer ones with great results. BTW I have a E220, so I'm not sure if you have springs that you can replace in your car.

I recently dismantled, cleaned and lubed my linkage and, while still firm, the clean-up made a world of difference. Adjusted each step of the way and the throttle response and shift points improved as well. If the specs are not on the shop manual CD, they are available from the alldata.com subscription. Used tranny fluid (sparingly) to lube having read that in the owners' manual or alldata, I thnk. You definitely don't want to use a lubricant (like wd-40) that gathers dirt. Hope this helps.

I have read posts here that say lithium grease is a great lubricant for the throttle linkage.
Is this true? I understand that dirt may get collected, but won't the ATF and other liquids need to be replenished shortly after the adjustment?

Just curious, as lubricating the throttle linkage in my '81 300TD is one of the things I plan to do this weekend. (I *was* planning on using lithium grease...):confused:
