Worst Feature/Ability?
Inspired by the "Favorite Feature/Ability thread". What are some thing that bug you? Not items that fail premature, etc. Just the features and abilities, etc.
For my 91 560 SEL its when I have less than 5 gallons of fuel, or about, and take a long hard right high speed turn (on ramp, etc) the engine gets starved of fuel! The pick-up should have been at center or, like most cars, have a bucket.

That's easy. The damn defroster. I live in a hot humid climate. I do not want more hot air for defogging on humid foggy mornings or nights. I want cool dry air blown on the windshield.

Air wasn't cold enough for me in the 124. Only thing that bothered me.

IIRC the fuel tank is baffled at the bottom, to minimize fuel starvation when accelerating (forwards or sideways).

300D: Lack of seat support, at the corners. Or, a seat cushion that cannot be "tilted" for better comfort. The angle is the same, regardless of height or fore/aft adjustment. In the succeeding models, they added this function. 190E: Rear seat leg room. I sat in it the other day, and realized how cramped it was. Sitting in the back seat of my 300D is like sitting in the driver seat of my 190E in terms of space. |

so what was the reason for the mirrors being different dimensions? specially if it wasnt for all models.

W124 - all models
1.Rear seat not divided and no access to trunk for longer items
2.Dehumidifier - nightmare to put it on and off all the time due to very hot air |

Later 124's got both powered mirrors. I kinda want to mod my 124 and 201 to have both power. Not sure if a powered 124 driver mirror would mate to the 201 though. My 201 has that dehumidifier button, I've no idea what it does that is different than the A/C button.. I don think my 124 has it.

Coffee cup holders!
None in my recently departed 1991 300CE. The weirdest contraption in my 2000 C280. |

Passenger side mirror is farther away, so any driver movement is not much of a difference. So it is taller to give the driver the "same" kind of vertical field of view. With the closeness of the driver to one mirror, only a lever is needed. Vice versa with the other mirror. They did the same with the W124, but the later models had a switch you could use to adjust both side mirrors. The W123 mirrors look the same from the front but are actually angled differently. Same question for the wipers - why change them over the years, right? |

^^ That is just like someone saying that MB were cheap not to put a trunk release inside the cab. They put a button on or near the trunk because they thought that if you do actually need to open it you would be near it first.
For major fun have a look at a RHD W124 - speaking for asian market here, UK maybe different, other models maybe similar. hood release on the RHD passenger side arm rest on the RHD passenger seat Gear shift gate exactly of LHD, all other car's have the opposite if they follow a notched gate pattern like MB. key on the wrong side of the column, in RHD they put the key on the left side - while all other cars have it standard with your right hand, RHD version seems its for lefties. I think even the newer MB are like that - in the UK the windscreen wipers of some models I saw were of LHD

To your point, the W140 wipers appear to be for RHD market. When the blades wipe, they move towards the right side of the vehicle. Going back on topic, I wish the 190E's, at least the later models, had the convenience module so I can lower the front windows with a short press of the button. But then that would make them compete against the W124 which already had the convenience modue when the W201's were being phased out. Maybe this is DIY-able? |
