took apart 722.3 valve body cant put it back together

hello, i took apart my 722.3 valve body and the mercedes books are confusing. does anybody know how to put it back together. thanks

why did you take it apart?

The ATSG manuals aren't too too bad for the 722.3 valve body but it all comes down to type - I get the feeling that there are lots of variations on the same theme.

I've shown the bits in order for a 722.303 transmission here

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/323259-722-303-bits-photo-shoot.html

But they probably won't help a Porsche 'box - which I assume you have...

...for the record which transmission do you have?

I split the valve body in half and stuff started dropping out, i also am not sure if i put the springs in the side panels out of order.

The stuff in the middle isn't such a problem - there are clear pictures (even in the ATSG manual!) of where those parts go - but the order of the springs and valves in the side are harder to figure out.

I've put some hints and tips in that thread to which I referred previously - but if you aren't sure about which spring goes in which hole - or the order in which each spring goes then you need to make a different plan.

How about these ideas?

1) First tell us which 'king valve body you have - transmission number + part number stamped on the casing

2) Take it to bits again and lay the parts out in the way in which you think they should go - take some photographs and post them up here so we can all check them for you...

or

3) Buy a superior shift kit and follow the instructions yourself

or

4) Buy a new valve body

or

5) Not bother / do something else

I used this .pdf to successfully reassemble my 722.4 valve body. It pertains to the 722.3 as well. Good luck.

I have just removed the valve body from my 722.3.

On removal it was obvious that someone has been there before and not installed it correctly. There is also a spring sticking up out of the top of the valve body:confused::rolleyes:

I have another known good valve body out of a 722.4. This has all the same part numbers as the 722.3 valve body. I will be installing this back in the 722.3.
I removed many of the spring assemblies in the 722.4 body for checking and cleaning and they all are the same as the 722.3 version.

Thanks go to Ether for the link to that assembly diagram :)

Need urgent help i flipped the valve body upside down and lost small parts how do i order these parts? I am missing springs and some small items. Is their like a diagram view that contains part numbers?

You may need to go to a junkyard and get a wrecked transmission and get the vavle body from it.
