I only requested two new keys.
I called them just now to confirm.
They no longer put the red dot on them.
But when you order from MB direct, they are properly keyed/stamped to work the factory alarm.

Start with a good key (mine were pretty worn when I compared side-by-side). If you order from the dealer, and you still have problems with your "factory" alarm, then it probably is in the locking mechanism. In my case the new keys solved the problem ..... for now. :cool:

Ok guys - forget the red dot. It has nothing to do with it. There is a set of contacts near the locks on the front doors. These contacts are not making good contact. Just replace it or clean them. They are used to arm and disarm the alarm.

The red dot is only plastic. It has nothing to do with the alarm system.

I picked up my replacement keys from the dealer today. Soon as I got home I pulled the passenger footwell to ensure the alarm was still connected, then set about playing with the keys.

Using the new key I followed the test in the manual and the alarm goes off - horns honking lights flashing, little kids covering their ears and running off :D. Unlocking the door disarms the alarm. Alarm sets from driver's door, passenger door and the trunk. I couldn't disarm at the trunk though, will study up on that one. I also, sat inside, locked the door through the open window and then tried starting the car with the old key, alarm went off but the car started. I guess it might draw some attention toolin' down the road with light flashing and horn honking though.

Tried the same test again using the old key (brass after market), no arming of the alarm. It also will not disarm the alarm.

Not sure what the difference the key makes, but now I have a working alarm.

I'm not sure if the car is supposed to kill if you attempt start it with the "window down, doors locked scenario" (?)
